Research & Publications
Peer-reviewed research published in The Lancet, BJOG, and leading Pakistani medical journals — shaping clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology.
The FAIR Trial — Published in The Lancet Haematology, January 2026
The FAIR Trial (Ferritin Screening and Iron treatment for maternal Anaemia and fetal growth Restriction) is a multicenter randomised controlled trial co-authored by Prof. Dr. Tayyiba Wasim. It was published in The Lancet Haematology in January 2026, one of the highest-impact haematology journals in the world.
The trial tested whether routine ferritin screening, not just haemoglobin screening, during pregnancy improves maternal and fetal outcomes. The results showed improved outcomes with intravenous iron over oral supplementation for women with non-anaemic iron deficiency. This finding is now influencing antenatal protocols in multiple countries.
"When Prof. Dr. Tayyiba Wasim recommends ferritin screening during your pregnancy, she helped write the clinical evidence that supports that recommendation. That is the difference between a practitioner and a researcher-clinician."
